Chanel say:

Now, in 2016, it is perfumer Olivier Polge’s turn to capture the essence of his time with the creation of N°5 L’EAU. A fragrance of the here, now and always.

In 1924, only three years after the creation of the Parfum, Ernest Beaux interpreted it as an Eau de Toilette. In 1986, Jacques Polge created the Eau de Parfum. Steadfastly 5 and totally new. Twenty-two years later, he dared to breathe new life into the formula with Eau Première.

The new L’Eau keeps the aldehydes, orange rinds and zests, and downplays the more metallic notes and the powdery vanilla base.According to Chanel, Polge dissected the original formula and looked at the role of each ingredient.

Notes for the fragrance are:

Chanel No. 5 LEau

Chanel say that L’Eau is “not a cologne. Nor is it a diluted version of the original fragrance for, at CHANEL, each variation is a genuine olfactory creation. N°5 L’EAU is the N°5 of today. A composition under the banner of modernity, with freshness as its leitmotif. L’EAU, for water is essential. L’EAU, in praise of simplicity. L’EAU, the obvious choice.“

The face of the scent is Lily-Rose Depp, who features in a campaign by director, Johan Renck.

Chanel No. 5 L’Eau will be available in 50ml and 100ml sizes.
